WHAT IS LASER SURFACE PREPARATION?

Laser cleaners work by using a focused laser beam to vaporize contaminants from a surface:

  1.  Laser hits surface: The laser beam hits the surface, and some of its energy is absorbed by the surface, while the rest is reflected.
  2. Contaminants absorb energy: The contaminants absorb the laser's energy and heat up quickly.
  3. Contaminants vaporize: The contaminants reach their ablation threshold and vaporize into dust and fumes.
  4. Surface remains unaffected: The substrate remains cool because its ablation threshold is higher than the contaminants'.
  5. Dirt is vacuumed off: The dirt can be vacuumed off to leave a clean surface.

Laser rust removal is a non-contact, precise, and controlled process that can remove a variety of substances, including:corrosion, paint, oil, carbonaceous deposits, powder coating, and radioactive particulates. Laser cleaning is often used to clean metals like steel, aluminum, copper, and brass. It can be used to remove rust and oxide, or to prepare surfaces for welding or bonding. Laser cleaning is a safe, quiet, and reliable technology that's easy to operate and automate. It's also environmentally friendly and has low operating and maintenance costs.

What materials can Laser cleaning be used on ?

Laser cleaners can work on a variety of materials, including:

  • Metals: Laser cleaning is often used to clean metals like steel, aluminum, copper, and brass. It can remove rust, oxide, and paint, and prepare surfaces for welding or bonding.
  • Ceramics: Laser cleaners can clean ceramics and other materials like stone, bricks, granite, and concrete.
  • Wood and plastics: Laser cleaners can also work on wood and plastics.

Laser cleaners use a focused beam of light to remove contaminants without using chemicals, abrasives, or mechanical force. The laser beam doesn't work on reflective surfaces, and most underlying layers have a higher evaporation temperature than the contaminated layer. This means that the laser beam won't damage the underlying material. Fiber laser cleaners are a type of laser cleaner that use a smaller, straight beam for focused cleaning. They are considered more efficient and environmentally friendly than other laser systems.
